Directions: You as a witness are to write four questions and answers in the perspective of your character using the book as a reference. You should find passages from the novel in support of Chairman Mao OR evidence against him depending the side of the case you are representing. Remember to USE page numbers and POST these questions on your blog. Lawyers, use this document to create cross-examination questions. Two per character should be sufficient.
Character:Ji-Li's Father Student Name:Pavel
1. Question: Why did you tell Ji-Li not to join all of those revolutionary clubs like the liberation army dancer, red successor? Why wasn't she allowed to do it?
Answer: I told her not to because of our class status. (pgs 8-9). They would criticize her and classify her as a black whelp, which they did in all of her tries to become more positive towards the revolution. (pgs 57-58). People with class status like our had basically no freedom those days, and neither did other people.
3. Question: Were you locked up and detained? Why?
Answer: Yes, I was locked up for being accused of listening to foreign radio and establishing ties as uncle tian mentioned (pg 181). They didn't allow Ji-Li to bring me food or anything, they told her she wasn't allowed to see me. (pg. 187).
4. Question: Do you think in this cultural revolution there was more freedom and it was better for all the chinese folk?
Answer: No, because there were a lot of people who had good lives, they were rich and had many things, and soveniers from foreign countries, but after the revolution started their good lives were just wiped out, they were ransacked, like old lady Rong. (pgs 82-85). Some people even commited suicide because their lives became so miserable! An-Yi's Grandmother died! (pgs 112-113). Old Qian was simply kicked and hurt and had his things taken out of the house (pgs 109-112). There was a lot of pain and ransacking. Therefore the cultural revolution made my life and lots of other people's lives really miserable!!!

Flex Day Feild Trip
3. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the top score, how would you rate the quality of the work environment you saw here, and why?
I think I'll rate it about a 7. Its a pretty nice space and the envoirnment isn't so bad, it may be dirty in some places or too crowded, but otherwise it's pretty good and safe.
2 Observations/Reflections:
1. I think when we went to both the places the guides explained everything they do and how people work there, it was well explain which made the questions easy to answer.
2. It was interesting to see what type of jobs were there at the factory.

End-of-Book Reflection Questions
The Revealers
Begin brainstorming the answers with members of your group!
1. Ms. Hogeboom told Russell that everyone was reading the Revealer and that the atmosphere of the school was changing…”It was like a small revolution” (175). Explain what she means about the school culture and their affect on it.
2. Describe why The Revealers project was so successful with students and judges alike.
3. Russell, Elliot, and Catalina's hypothesis for their science fair project was "if bullying and harassment incidents were brought to light among the whole student body in a school then there will be a reduction in these incidents as well as them being less severe in nature"(194). Did the three main characters prove their hypothesis? Discuss. What is one way you could use technology to improve the school at AISD?

1. Ms. Hogeboom told Russell that everyone was reading the Revealer and that the atmosphere of the school was changing…”It was like a small revolution” (175). Explain what she means about the school culture and their affect on it.
She means that the Revealer really got in touch with the students and that they knew that this was happening to lots of people in the school, not just to them.
2. Describe why The Revealers project was so successful with students and judges alike.
It was a successful project because it was unique unlike the others, and it involved all the steps of a real science project and lots of information. It showed all the hypothesis and results and even videos.
Yes they proved it, because when they published other students' stories on the Revealer, everyone else read them and later bullying incidents decreased and got less violent.
Elliots Expose
When Elliot writes about his experience with the Jock Rots and sends it out over the KidNet, he includes the following quote in his letter.
"I think people ought to realize that stuff like this goes on every day…The rest of you are all part of it-because you let it go on and maybe you think it's funny, or you think it only happens to geeky outsiders and kids who are smaller or fatter or skinnier or don't have so many friends or so much money as you. So tell me-what happens when you don't have so many friends one day, or you don't have so much money, or something bad happens to you?" (91-92)
Blog Question:
What is the message is he trying to get across to his classmates? (6pts)

I think the message he is trying to get across is that whenever there is a bullying situation everyone automatically becomes part of it. Even though you aren't directly involved in it you are still part of it because you don't do anything about it. Or maybe you think its ok for it to go and if you do think that, you are definatley a part of it.

Blog: Role Reversal
Blog Question: After the Bully Lab was renamed, the Revealers, and the stories of the three Darkland students were released and well received by the student body, Elliot wanted to publish Russell’s narrative about Richie punching Russell in the face.
1) Why was Russell so opposed to the idea (pg. 110)? Explain. (4 pts)
2) What is happening to the relationship between Russell and Richie. (3 pts)
3) Two Peer Comments (4 pts each)
Blog Answer:
1. Russell was opposed to posting the story because he thought Richie started to act kind of differently, and he remembered how Richie told him how he did a good job and scared the Jock Rots on pages 96-99.
2. I think Richie is becoming less rough with Russell and less harmful to him. He is becoming more friendly, Russell may hang around Richie and not be scared of him.
